Gianfranco Ferre - For Man (VINTAGE)

I have the original bottle from the 90´s and the new one.
They are pretty different.
The old one smells darker. The new "reformulation" is more a modern citrus scent with some of the ingredients of the classic Ferre.
The old scent is clearly mature.
The new fragrance has lost that dark tobacco smelling in its basenotes.
For me, the vintage version with the T-glass bottle is the best tobacco scent I know. The new one can't be compared with.
I disliked the new and gave it away.

I would rate the old scent with 7 of 10 points.
The new one scores 3 of 10.

Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille

The mixture of notes makes it smell like a cherry. If I would go into a room and smell this scent without knowing what is there. I would think that cherrys are waiting to be eaten. It's a nice scent. In my opinion it's better than Tabac Rouge by Phaedon.

Edit:
I found a bottle, it's called Original Vanilla and was dedicated to women. It's price tag was 4,99. It smells exactly like tobacco vanille and was made in Italy.
I am wondering if Tom Ford has any contract with that manufacturer. Really the same scent for 4,99. I googled and read that it was discontinued. What a pity.

Conclusion:
In my opinion Bogart Pour Homme is a more interesting cherry scent.

Tobacco doesn´t smell that sweet like TV. Tobacco has some dirty sweat accord, which is difficult to find in fragrances nowadays.

Etro - Gomma

I have found a vintage bottle of this stuff. First sniff, yes reminds me of knize ten. But, sniffing from the hand is often different than the smell of the air around you. And yes, the air around you (projection) smells like burnt rubber.
Heard that this perfume was reformulated. Reformulation 2010: Cap was changed form gold to silver. And the package looks different. They also decided to stamp Eau de Toilette instead of Eau de Cologne on it. Maybe new laws gives the opportunity.
Only one spray and the room smells of this scent.
Even Patou pour homme couldn`t beat it.
It´s a Tester, maybe they put Parfum Extrait in it.
Thumb up.

Lacoste - 2000

This cologne smells very peppery.
When I smelled it for the first time, I was immediately reminded of a fragrance I smelled before.
And a few minutes ago I remembered it.
Joop rococo has an almost identical smell. Pepper, a lot of pepper. Strong pepper.
It can't be compared with the smooth pepper smell of a Shiseido Basala.
Lacoste 2000 has the strongest pepper note I've smelled in any cologne.
Every other note listed in the base is hiding behind the strong pepper note.
I you are a pepper fan, this cologne is made for you!
Gourmand fans should make a big round around this.
I think that's the reason why there is so much hate it or love it about this cologne.
The first version (100 ml) with the on/off button looks very nice.
And don't forget, this cologne was created by the same perfumer who created Yohji Yamamoto Homme!

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Escada - Pour Homme

Escada pour homme is an elegant fragrance for young men in suits.
But this fragrance is overhyped. The ingredients seem to be mostly synthetic. Cinnamon and Orange are very prominent, but don´t smell natural, they are very harsh. I tried 2 different bottles to get sure that I was not fooled by an expired fragrance. And it was the same.

OVERALL RATING: 4 of 10

Comme des Garcons - Series 8 Guerrilla: Guerrilla 1

Then I went to a night club (what I am doing pretty seldom) I had to choose between Comme des Garçons no 2 Men, Dreckig Bleiben and this 1 ml sample.
I decided to go with this to the club.
And started to spray right before entering the club.
I never smelled it before. I thought who is smelling here so damn good.
Thought the guys in front of me did. But not, as I moved I recognized it was me.
Smelling it for the first time was wow.
But now my nose got rid of the synthetic components, so I don't like this scent anymore.
It's fresh, flowery, green smell is nice, but my nose says no.
The same with aldehydes and synthetic scents.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Humiecki & Graef - Blask

After reading all the reviews I have set huge hopes into Blask and bought an used 1/3 full bottle of it.
First of all, the Perfume is Made in Germany. The ingredients list shows Aldehydes. Synthetic ingredients? Yes.
Now what about the smell. After spraying it, I was instantly reminded of a fragrance I smelled before. And it was definitely not red wine which I was expecting.
The smell is nothing new or groundbreaking for me.

OVERALL RATING: 4 of 10

Reminiscence - Noir

Start: 50% Eucalyptus & 50% Incense
Mid: 25% Eucalyptus & 75% Incense
End: 2% Eucalyptus & 98% Incense

While I don´t think that this perfume contain any natural ingredient, I may be wrong.
Noir opens very strong and settles down after a while. Female noses may be irritated by the strong smell. There´s absolutely nothing dark about this scent.
But Noir is for men, for those who love incense.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Van Cleef & Arpels - Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris. A soft, almost feminine perfume. Sweetness paired with balsamic notes. My imagination is the smell of skin. Dermatoid.
Its smell is very similar to the 1st version of Helmut Lang Eau de Cologne, just a little bit sweeter. With Helmut Lang you have the same dermatoid character. Just imagine a mixture of Helmut Lang EdC and Baldessarini Strictly Private = dermatoid creme brulee.

Midnight in Paris is not for the night out in Paris. Too soft. It would be great for spending a night with an affiliated person.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Bijan - Men (VINTAGE)

Balsamic Oakmoss.
This perfume has the 80`s character.
I´ve only found the five star reformulation.
It lasts very long, sillage is also good.
After one day it starts to develop and powdery honey-vanilla comes up.
Not very prominent, but recognizable.
This scent was made for real man who work on construction site.
Don´t let the sweat fight you, fight the sweat.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Etat Libre d`Orange - Secretions Magnifiques

There are 3 categories which can describe this fragrance:
smell of sweat
smell of sperm
smell of a wet dog

This is the result, when someone makes a perfume without thinking, just mixing something toegehter.
But Secretions Magnifiques Etat Libre d`Orange is pretty popular, because everyone is perverted enough and want to try it.

This is Sado Maso for the nose.

Secretions Magnifiques = SM = Sado-Maso

OVERALL RATING: 1 of 10

Clive Christian - No. 1

No. 1 claims itself to be the most expensive perfume.
It isn´t. This comparison is as wise as its wearer.
Clive starts with a weird smell of body powder from the 80´s and settles down within 30 minutes to cinnamon icing sugar.
It´s too feminine and generic but pleasant.
There are better and more masculine alternatives.
1. Alternative:
Maxim's pour Homme Maxim`s de Paris for men
2. Alernative:
Heritage Guerlain for men
3. All in all almost similar character:
Yves Saint Laurent Yvresse

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Boadicea the Victorious - Virtuous

Virtuous Boadicea the Victorious is a typical arabian saffron, rose, oud combination with ISO E Super, which is not listed here.
First I thougt, that´s a bad smell. But now I am wearing it and it´s ok. A bitter saffron smell. Nothing sweet here. Only bitter notes. Great for everyone who don´t like sweet or too dark scents. Excellent for saffron lovers.
It lasts very long.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Thierry Mugler - A*Men Pure Coffee

I don´t like the original A*Men. Most of the other `pure` versions, alltogether are exchangeable.
But Pure Coffee is an exception.
The first time I met Pure Coffee was 2008. A friend of mine wore this and I was always wondering how good he smelled.
But sadly the fragrance was discontinued.
And suddenly I found one last bottle of the 2014 Pure Coffee for the retail price (75 Euro) in a shop.
I can´t remember the 2008 version exactly but the 2014 version is a gourmand, a masculine oriental fragrance with a good pinch of coffee, cedar and patchouli.
Big Love.

And by the way, as I have a sample of Intoxicated, I don´t get any Kilian Intoxicated out of Pure Coffee. Pure Coffee is made for men. Intoxicated is unisex.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Dunhill - Icon Alfred

Orange with lavender undertone and some powdery flowers.
Then I recognized that I knew this smell somewhere from.
I work on the construction site and my first thought was glue. The smell of glue.
But now I remembered it again, it was Armani City Glam.
Great Remake.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Jean Paul Gaultier - Gaultier 2

Gaultier 2 is a masterpiece.
While I don´t like Le Male, Armani Code and other popular fragrances,
Gaultier 2 manages to be a really pleasant fragrance based on only 3 notes.
I recognized that many big fragrance hits were made only on 3-5 ingredients.
More will overwhelm our nose. Gaultier 2 is often catgorized as
a Night Club scent or even more a compliment getter, Sex in a bottle.
Musky ambery vanilla. Very well done. In my opinion the best creation by Francis Kurkdjian.
I love amber and this fragrance is all about the amber. No bubblegum in here, Just vanilla flavoured amber.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Maison Francis Kurkdjian - Masculin Pluriel

Very misunderstood and underrated fragrance.
Masculin Pluriel Maison Francis Kurkdjian opens with a metallic lavender which really deserves the name masculin.
Master Kurkdjian offered us so many sweet, powdery, feminine fragrances that he decided to show what else he can do. This is the result.
A masterpiece for real man.

OVERALL RATING: 8 of 10

Yves Saint Laurent - Kouros

It´s really difficult to pick out the right bottle (batch code, date of production, amount of civet). Kouros is the animal under mankind. You can always separate Kouros from the other fragrances in a perfume shop. Kouros smells animalic, salty, and yeah like an aphrodisiaque.
There is only hate it or love it about this fragrance.
Due to the use of synthetic components, the lasting power is remarkable, on me up to 3 days with 2 sprays. The civet seems to be synthetic. The sillage is not a beast, but moderate.
Signature.
After the harsh start, the base is warm and masculin and absolutely similar to the base of the vintage Aramis Tuscany Per Uomo, which reminds me of Patou Pour Homme. The World is small. The World is not enough.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Gucci - Pour Homme

The second Gucci Pour Homme I from the Millenium doesn´t need a lot of words. It´s a classic, masculine incense + cedar fragrance.
It came out at a time when there was a cedar trend. Now it´s gone and so did PH I too.
Today there is a trend to oud. And even oud seems to be the setting trend. The whole circle rotates again.
Gucci Pour Homme I isn´t an individual fragrance, but it was pretty popular, so is the hype after the discontinuation.
There are a few similar male fragrances out there, don´t pay those kapitalists the hundreds of Euros for the stocked up bottles.
Best alternative so far is Comme des Garcons 2 Man. Amouage Fate Man and Carbone de Balmain are distant cousins.

OVERALL RATING: 7 of 10

Phaedon - Tabac Rouge

First I liked it, then I disliked it.
Something syntethic destroys this fragrance for me.
In my opinion Tobacco Vanille is superior over this fragrance, because it shows more cherry, while this is just a sweetened cinnamon.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Comme des Garcons - Black

I am blown away...
In my childhood, I used to solder materials by putting the hot soldering into the resin.
And CdG Black smells like heated resin.
Masculine, mysterious, dark.
Love this stuff.

OVERALL RATING: 7 of 10

Givenchy - Xeryus (VINTAGE)

Xeryus, everytime again I come back to this Neo Modern Art Deco bottle.
Beautiful and chic. Maybe the most beautiful and strange out there.
The fragrance itself is a typical masculine, heavy floral, slightly fruity fougere.
Reminds me of some kind of silicone glue.
Very solid, and useable for any occasion, application or date. The universal masculine scent.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Amouage - Gold pour Homme (VINTAGE)

I got my hands on a rare bottle of Amouage Gentlemen's EDT. It is a more refined version of Amouage Gold, with notes of real Ambergris, Civet, Rose, Sandalwood, Jasmine and other notes.

The smell is very soapy, like classic household soap.
It´s very similar to Helena Rubinstein Men's Club.
The Civet and Ambergris plays its aphrodisiaque role in the background.

Projects and lasts enormous. 2 sprays last over 1,5 days.
This fragrance, which is claimed to be the the most valuable perfume in the world is maybe the most valuable for it´s longevity and soft projection of richness.

I compared it with Yves Saint Laurent Kouros, both are different, but masculine in the drydown.
Kouros doesn´t project and last as long as Amouage does.
1 spray of Amouage projects over 24 hours (Kouros only 10).
3 sprays of Amouage will make you to the one man show.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

D`Orsay - Le Dandy

Silver Cap Le Dandy is a gourmand fragrance, with fantasy notes of Whiskey and Rum.
The smell is sweet, kind of honey tobacco like and slightly boozy (alcohol like).
The fragrance is soft and doesn´t project bright, it´s an ideal signature fragrance for confident people.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Amouage - Homage

Amouage Homage is a very strong perfume oil.
Its smell is leaning more on the feminine side.
I would say about 75% feminine.
Rose and incense create an aura that reminds me of saffron.
A slightly bitter, floral musky scent.
Overall very specific fragrance, not for everyone.

OVERALL RATING: 7 of 10

Versace - Eros

After the first big dissapointment while smelling Eros for the first time, I tried to give it a second chance.
I bought a small 1 ml pocket size tester and wore it to a Cabaret. The Cabaret was full of smoke, alcohol and beautiful girls. And Eros played its role very well. Eros needs some maculine components to get the testosterone out of it.
Now I changed my mind. Eros is an Über 1 Million and Le Male bomb.
One dimensional, as a club scent should be.
It´s a very sweet vanilla-tonka combination with chemical compounds of afrodisiac Ambroxan and seems to be ISO E Super.
Very well crafted Italian Macho.

OVERALL RATING: 7 of 10

Bvlgari - Man in Black All Black

Bvlgari Man in Black All Blacks or Bulgari Man in Black Limited Edition or just Bulgari Man in Black Intense is one of this fragrances which smell different on paper and on skin.
On the paper strip I get a sweet, slightly fresh tea smell, which is similar to V&R Spicebomb.
On skin this scent produce a lot of iris, I get the smell of Dior Homme.
But Dior Homme is just too much iris, Bvlgari has just the right amount of iris mixed with cocoa spices.
This fragrance is very good for night time use.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Carolina Herrera - 212 VIP Men

The ginger is very prominent in the beginning.
The fragrance itself is fresh like Creed Aventus with a sharp undertone of ginger.
It dries down to a slightly sweet mess of notes.
Definitely better than Creed Aventus and 1 Million, even if I don't smell any similarities.

OVERALL RATING: 8 of 10

Amouage - Sunshine Men

Sunshine Men takes the classic fougere lavender and brings it to a new common level mixing it up with tonka bean, vanilla and other sweet notes.
The result is a sweet lavender, almost gourmand like.
Very calming to the senses.
The price tag on Amouage stands for quality, the fragrance stays much longer.
Not a typical Amouage fragrance, but a good one.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Paco Rabanne - Black XS

Black XS smells in the beginning fruity à la 1 Million, but not as heavy.
The main ingredient seems to be ISO E Super, this gives the fragrance a woody background.
In the drydown all the notes disappear and ISO E Super stays.
So the fragrance is about 2 hours fruity and then just woody like many other fragrances based on this magic chemical.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Christian Dior - Sauvage

Don´t expect something out of this world. Its roots are eau sauvage, so we have here a modern variaton. I don´t know how abroxan smell, but I know the smell of ambergris, and this perfume doesn´t have any components of ambergris. It´s really fresh, slightly spicy bergamot. Lemon juice, thats all I get.

Dior Sauvage starts very similiar to Creed Aventus, not the perfume notes but the hidden ambroxan. Seems that both are using similar chemicals. But then Sauvage gets very sharp citrusy while Creed develops with a pineapple smell.
So my coclusion is:
Creed Aventus for slightly sweet, fresh smell.
Dior Sauvage for all fans of Aventus who are looking for a cheaper alternative.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Paco Rabanne - 1 Million

1 Million is a typical oriental fragrance with a sweet, gourmand like smell.
The bubble gum like accord may come from the cinnamon-amber-orange combination.
A lot of fragrances represent bubble gums nowadays.
1 Million is not the reference.
The smell itself could be a an interpritation of flavoured tobacco.

First I compared Intense 1:1 with Cologne.
Cologne had an overdose of pepper, I almost had to neeze.
So I gave Intense a chance. Intense is a more sticky 1 Million.
By the way, on Million was my favorite, then it came out.
I thought why not try Intense and spray it once on the hand.

So I did. On the other hand I had already Aventus by Creed.
The opening of Intensce is pretty much bubblegum like, I thought that this and Aventus give the smell a super sexy type of sillage.
But only 1 hour later 1 Mio Intense turned into a disgusting synthetic mess of cheap perfumery.

Something is wrong about it´s components.
There are perfumes for only 3 Euro á 100 ml with more quality than 1 Mio Intense.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Thierry Mugler - A*Men Pure Malt

What I smell: Boozy (alcoholic/rotten) fruits and a gourmand combination of coffee-vanilla-caramel... or just about 80% of the original A*Men.

Staying Power: Projection ~ 2 hours in a radius of ~2 metres. And then the fragrance settles down and stays up to 8 hours in your aura (6 sprays).

What is the reaction from the people around: Pure Malt is getting peoples attention. Nobody was annoyed by the fragrance. Some people sniffed significantly more often, some just looked up to the wearer.

Who is the person who wears Pure Malt:
Pure Malt is the fragrance for those who still like oriental, gourmand like fragrances, but don´t want to smell like sugar candy and want to stay away from mainstreams like 1 Million, Le Male, Code. The Pure Malt wearer likes rum and whiskey. And he is at least 25.

Any Alternatives: Pure Malt is somewhat similar to Le Dandy by D'Orsay.

Conclusion:
It´s a simple and unusual fragrance. The beginning is boozy the base is A*Men.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever.

Amen.

Davidoff - Horizon

When I saw Horizon I was immediately reminded of Event Horizon, the science fiction horror movie.
My first imagination was, did they take the movie as inspiration?
Something futuristic, mysterious, exceptional.
The answer is no.
Davidoff Horizon does nothing have to do with science fiction, it´s even old school.

Yes, Horizon smells very much like the Powerhouse era.
Horizon smells masculine, mossy.
Davidoff recognized that the fashion trend is moving back to old school. And so the fragrances do.
Welcome back to old school.

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Paco Rabanne - Invictus Aqua

I didn`t care much about the original Invictus but Aqua got my attention.
I don´t care much about aquatics, but something Aqua Invictus got my growing attention.
It seems to be the perfect balance between something fresh and something heavy, animalic, woody.
The smell is salty, fresh. It might, if mixed together with the right body odour, create a really stunning smell.
The support for that may come from the pheromones (ambergris).
But again, I personally don´t care about aquatics ;).

OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10

Prada - Marienbad

I tested Marienbad in the official Prada store in Milano.
Out of the 10 prestige fragrances offered by Prada this was the most interesting.
I`ve never been in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) or Marienbad so I can`t comment the relation of the name to the smell.

What I get is a dark mix of incence with leather. The same leather that I get from fragrances like etro gomma or Knize Ten and incense like that from Comme des Garcons Series 3 Incense.
The sillage of this fragrance is great. One spray surrounded me within 2 metres for about 2 hours. Great quality fragrance.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Jacques Bogart - One Man Show Gold Edition

Some reviews were saying that this resembles One Million by Paco Rabanne. Really, are you serious?
This has 0 to do with One Million, no even -1.
OMS Gold is a well blended Amber-Musk combination that reminds me a lot of Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent.
Also of Grant For Men by Elizabeth Grant.
Both are very musky-mossy perfumes. Very masculine.
OMS Gold starts with a salty, animalic smell and needs a lot of time to settle down to the earthy base.
Gold doesn´t need many sprays as Kouros does.
Projection and staying power seems to be similar.

Due to the similarities this is the best alternative for YSL Kouros - only without civet.

Conclusion:
Projection ~room filling
Staying Power ~feels like forever
Suggested Age ~40+

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Jacques Bogart - Arabian Nights

This fragrance smells disgusting.
I get a very strong, spicy, peppery accord of dung.
I thought, maybe it´s only my nose, but no. I was confirmed that is smells like fresh excrement of animal.
Something is really wrong about this stuff.
Only for excrement fetishts.

OVERALL RATING: 1 of 10

Diesel - Fuel for Life Homme

This is not a fragrance, it´s mass destruction weapon.
There is nothing pleasant about the smell. It smells like a toilet cleaning product, already after you cleaned the toilet.
How can this cost so much and have so many fans.
I thik it´s easy to describe.
Good fragrances are kept for special times, bad are worn every day. And it has a positive effect, your colleagues won´t bother you anymore.

OVERALL RATING: 1 of 10

Calvin Klein - Obsession

The vintage Obsession for women with the deep red color and golden ring around the non removeable cap with the build in perfume sprayer (I am talking about a 20 year old fragrance) is easily wearable as a unisex fragrance nowadays.
What I get is cinnamon with vanilla and some wood in the background. A very delicious winter fragrance. Reminds me of Christmas market.
Projection is room filling (20 sqm) with only 1 spray.
Projecting power depends on your skin, but on paper for days.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Jacques Bogart - One Man Show Oud Edition

Now this is what I didn`t expect from Bogart.
An Über-Masculine fragrance.
It´s heavy, dirty, animalic.
Smells like dirty leather.
Dark like the night.
Powerhouse.
WOW.

OVERALL RATING: 4 of 10

Jean Paul Gaultier - Kokorico

When Kokorico came out all of us were into oriental fragrances with sweet notes and nobody accepted such bitter sweet fragrances like Kokorico. Kokorico is all about bitter cocoa. A slightly powdery, bitter chocolate with cedar underground.
Time have passed and I came back again to this fragrance. Now it seems that the right time came. This fragrance smells different. Seductive.
If you like bitter chocolate or dark coffee, this is it.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Parfums de Marly - Herod

Herod is a typical tobacco-vanilla-cinnamon fragrance with a dash of spiciness.
It reminds me mostly of Spicebomb on pepper.
So if you need a longer lasting, spicier Spicebomb,
I mean Spice²bomb, then take Herod.

OVERALL RATING: 6 of 10

Escada - Escada Casual Friday

While I don´t like Escada Pour Homme, I adore Escada Pour Homme Casual Friday.
It´s one of those scents which came above its time.
Casual Friday is a delicious fragrance.
What I get is spicy vanilla.
It might smell like a couple of fragrances but I couldn´t find anything like it.
If it would come out these days it would be a hit.

OVERALL RATING: 8 of 10

Puma - Time to Play Man

Time to Play is the most interesting fragrance by Puma.
It´s a fruity fresh mix in a pleasant way.
I don´t get that locker room accord as with many other sport fragrances.
It´s not that strong. But very pleasant.
I get a sweet mix of pineapple with fruits (mainly watermelon).
Really worth a try. Especially if you are into fresh fragrances with pineapple, like Creed Aventus.

OVERALL RATING: 4 of 10

L`Artisan Parfumeur - Ambre Extreme

Ambre Extreme is an unisex fragrance.
It resembles Amber in a good way.
It´s sweet, sugary, powdery.
The name Extreme says it all.
6 sprays last and project on me for over 12 hours.
The first hours are supplied with a very good sillage (the smell when you pass a room). Powerhouse niveau.
A very good, sweet Amber fragrance for the night out.

It smells to me like a cake!

By the way it´s not as spicy as Ambre 114 (the brightest Amber fragrance so far), so may be less masculine for some. I would rate it more towards feminine side, but I like to wear it myself, because it´s definitely unisex.

OVERALL RATING: 7 of 10

D`Orsay - Arome 3

Arome 3 is an extremely oldschool fragrance.
It´s almost pure lavender with a drop spice and sweetness.
Smells extremly oldschool and dated.
I can´t imagine this on young people.
It´s something for the generation 60+
More masculine than feminine.
But at the age of 60 wearable by both gender.
